What Is Included in Leak Detection

  • Confirming there is a leak by checking your water meter with every fixture off.
  • Narrowing it down: inside or outside, hot side or cold side, wall, ceiling, or slab.
  • Pinpointing the leak before we cut into a wall or floor.
  • Repairing the leaking line, fitting, or valve once it is found.
  • Rerouting a line instead of breaking up a slab when that makes more sense for your home.

Our goal is simple: find it, fix it, and leave your home in as close to the condition we found it as the job allows.

How to Check Your Water Meter for a Leak

You can do a quick check yourself before you call. It takes about 15 minutes.

  1. Turn off every faucet, toilet, ice maker, sprinkler, and appliance that uses water.
  2. Find your water meter, usually in a box near the street, and write down the reading.
  3. Wait 15 minutes without using any water.
  4. Check the meter again. If the numbers moved, or the small leak indicator is turning, water is going somewhere it should not.

If your meter shows a leak, call or text us with what you found. It helps us know where to start.

Signs You Need Leak Detection

  • Your water bill jumped and your water use did not.
  • You hear water running when everything is turned off.
  • There is a warm or damp spot on the floor.
  • New cracks in flooring, or stains on drywall or ceilings.
  • A musty smell or mold you cannot explain.
  • Water pressure dropped throughout the house.
  • A wet patch in the yard that does not dry out.

Leak Detection for Homes and Businesses

Many River Valley homes are built on concrete slabs with water lines running underneath. When one of those lines leaks, the signs can be easy to miss until the water bill arrives. We track it down and talk through the repair options with you, including going around the slab instead of through it.

For businesses, a hidden leak wastes water and can damage inventory, flooring, and walls. We find leaks in restaurants, churches, offices, and retail buildings and make the repair with as little disruption to your day as we can.

Leak Detection Questions

How do I know if I have a slab leak?

Common signs are a water bill that jumps for no clear reason, the sound of running water when everything is off, warm or damp spots on the floor, new cracks in flooring, and a water meter that keeps moving with every fixture closed. If you notice any of these, call or text us. We will find the source before we open anything up.

Will you have to tear up my floor?

Not always. We pinpoint the leak first, so if the floor has to be opened, the opening is as small as we can make it. Sometimes it makes more sense to reroute the water line through a wall or attic and leave the slab alone. We will explain the options and let you choose.

What should I do if I find a leak?

If water is actively leaking, turn off the main water valve to the house if you can reach it safely. Move valuables out of the way and soak up what you can. Then call or text us at (479) 719-1263 and tell us what you are seeing.

Can a leak cause my water bill to go up even if I can't see water?

Yes. Slab leaks and leaks inside walls can run for weeks without showing on the surface. A running toilet can also waste a surprising amount of water without any puddle at all. If your bill went up and your habits did not change, check your meter or call us.
